چکیده

Co-digestion of sludge with external substrates at wastewater treatment plants is a common means to use residual wastes, utilise available capacity in the digester and boost biogas production. The Benchmark Simulation Model No. 2 (BSM2) is a platform for comparing plant-wide control strategies and includes among other things a model of the activated sludge process and the digester at a treatment plant. This report reviews the state of knowledge on possibilities and challenges to include codigestion in the BSM2 model. The report also includes a survey of the hydrolysis coefficient for commonly used substrates at treatment plants in Sweden by using nonlinear parameter estimation fitting models to Biomethane Potential (BMP) test data. Since the ADM1-model is COD based the substrates have to be divided into state variables in terms of COD. All the methods available in literature involve some sort of COD analysis on the substrate, and the way to proceed would be different depending on the solids concentration of the substrate. It is recommended that each substrate is characterised individually and that the hydrolysis step is kept virtually separate for each of the substrates in the BSM2 model. The study has found that the present hydrolysis coefficient in BSM2 (10 d-1) needs to be updated and a more reasonable value is around 0.2 d-1 for mixed sludge. The coefficient for food waste is similar to that of mixed sludge.

Genetic parameters and relationships between hip height and weight in Brahman cattle.

Genetic parameters for weaning hip height (WHH), weaning weight (WWT), postweaning hip height growth (PHG), and hip height at 18 mo of age (HH18) and their relationships were estimated for Brahman cattle born from 1984 to 1994 at the Subtropical Agricultural Research Station, Brooksville, FL. Records per trait were 889 WHH, 892 WWT, and 684 HH18. (Co)variances were estimated using REML with a d...

Archaeal Diversity in Biofilm Technologies Applied to Treat Urban and Industrial Wastewater: Recent Advances and Future Prospects

Biological wastewater treatment (WWT) frequently relies on biofilms for the removal of anthropogenic contaminants. The use of inert carrier materials to support biofilm development is often required, although under certain operating conditions microorganisms yield structures called granules, dense aggregates of self-immobilized cells with the characteristics of biofilms maintained in suspension...

Genetic Parameters for Body Weight, Carcass and Wool Traits in Dohne Merino

The Dohne Merino was introduced to Australia as a dual-purpose (wool and meat) breed at the end of 1990s with very limited genetic parameters available. Up to 373,639 records per trait were used to estimate genetic parameters for eight traits in this study. Heritability estimates ( ± s.e.) were 0.34 ± 0.02 for weaning weight (Wwt), 0.27 ± 0.01 for yearling weight (Ywt), 0.13 ± 0.01 for yearling...

Developing Decision on Suitable Wastewater Treatment Technology Using Fuzzy Simple Additive Weighting

As is generally known, water could purify to its natural substances by performing basic wastewater treatment (WWT). Despite many WWT technologies available nowadays, experts have difficulty selecting the most suitable technology due to so many criteria that governed the selection. The paper aims to identify the most suitable WWT technology using the multi-criteria decision making technique, fuz...

A practical longitudinal model for evaluating growth in Gelbvieh cattle.

Genetic evaluation of growth in Gelbvieh beef cattle was examined by multiple-trait (MTM) and random regression (RRM) analysis. The data set comprised 541,108 animals with 1,120,086 records. Approximately 15% of the animals in the data set had at least one record measured outside of the accepted MTM age ranges for weaning weight (Wwt) and yearling weight (Ywt). Fourteen percent of Wwt records a...
